seemingly random system "lockups"

Thread Starter

I need help For the last 6-8 days I've been the victim to random system lockups that occurs every 5- 10 seconds and lasts for about 2 tenths to several seconds, with a corrupted sound playing if I'm listening to music or in-game sounds

I've done some google-ing but to no avail

here is my full system specs

CPU: Intel core i7 4770K

RAM: Corsair Vengeance (2*8GB) 1600  (10-10-10-28)

GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 780 Ref [ Core: 1110MHz vram: 7.2GHz (data-rate)]

Mobo: Asus Sabertooth Z87

The severity of the lockups seems to depend on the system load, it occurs more while in gaming sessions (Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4 is what I'm playing at present). I've also noticed that the CPU usage sometimes [saw it twice that it jumps to 100% utilization for less than 5 seconds (all CPU meter gadget v. 4.7.3)]

All i can tell you more is: the system freezes, thus i can't do any input or even move my mouse, the sound output also goes under the lockups influence the playing a corrupted sound (bad dub step sound)

I have no idea where i should make this post

Any help would be (VERY) much appreciated

Yes, that's definitely a hard drive.

If you haven't got the drive auto-sleep features enabled, it's on its way out.
