Decent motherboard for i7-4770k?

Thread Starter
Need a motherboard for i5-3570k and the i7-4770k

Requirements:

  1. CHEAP hopefully sub $75, even used on OCN. I don't mind supporting the community
  2. Mild Overclocking. Maybe about a 4.0ghz overclock?
  3. SATAIII and USB 3.0
  4. mATX
  5. Z77/Z87

No Crossfire ever intended. Just want it to be reliable and work. A PCI slot for my DG Xonar would be nice!

Open box acceptable from Newegg.

For a board for the 4770K, see if you can find a MSI Z87M-G43 on sale or if you can get one used, even better. You will be able to get a small overclock out of it, but nothing huge.

For the 3570K, something like the ASRock Z77 Pro4-M? Again, you will be able to overclock but nothing to high.

h87 may be worth considering. it completely obliviates the point of using a k series chip, but IIRC you can still do a FSB overclock, which should be enough for 4.0

I'm not quite sure exactly what intel did with it's everyone-is-our-*****-and-we-own-you microcode update in July though, so I'm not sure.

Yeah going Z77/Z87. Hate how intel doesn't allow overclocking on the cheaper boards.

Under $100 might be ordering tonight. Let me know what to get!

OP,

Why not get this Z77 board for the i5-3570k: MSI Z77A-G45 for $60 AC/AR w/FS

Edit: I just realized that you wanted mATX. That's a shame, this would have worked perfectly for you otherwise.
