Which graphics card to get, and when? ~$250 budget

Hey all biggrin.gif.

Budget - preferably $250 or less.
Games - Rome 2
Preferences - AMD, but I don't mind either way. Would also like to get a second card later (will upgrade PSU if needed, but this board supports SLI and Crossfire)
Requirements - Has to be quiet while gaming. It also needs to last 2/3 years.
Resolution - 1440x900, moving to 1920x1080 soon most likely.
Time frame - now to Black Friday / Cyber Monday.

I also don't mind buying used.

I like the MSI GAMING cards for the cooler, since they seem quiet, and like the DCU 2 cooler for the same reason (on the 760 it seems great that their card also is short and an 8-pin only)

Is my best bet just ignoring the sales, and snagging a 7950? Anyone have any ideas on what to look out for? Thanks biggrin.gif

can you buy from egg?

if not, i'd get the 7950. at only 1100 it is already faster than a stock 7970.

7950 and 7970 are steals right now.... I run Rome on a 7950 and have zero issues at 1440 resolutions.

Hahahah it's out of stock. Gosh that a great price though. So the thing is, 1, assume that is a GHZ edition? And the other thing, is it smarter to wait till BF/CM and buy then?

@rdr09 - yes I'm in the US. Also it runs better on AMD so far as I can tell

@Mopar63 - wow really? What settings, and on your sig rig?

How about this at $269.00 after rebate?

XFX Double D FX797ATDJC Radeon HD 7970 3GB 384-bit DDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card

I know it blows your budget by $30 but it is a hell of a card at a great price... Oh, if you use NewEgg mobile and this code MBLWALLET I think you'll get another $10.00 off. Now you only over $20

or, I'll be selling my XFX 6970 2gb really soon if you might be interested in that...

OP go for the PCS+ HD 7950 . good cooler. unlocked voltage. for $229 after $10 off PC-7950_OC w/code: IRENA9010, ends 11/25

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7950-review-benchmark,3207-12.html

http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=PC-7950_OC

HD 7950 is 5 - 7% slower than HD 7970 at same clocks. on average you can overclock to 1100 - 1150 mhz and match HD 7970 Ghz. thumb.gif
