Hi guys have a few questions ide like to bring up before I begin with my build log in the next few weeks. I am new to the forum so please bear with me:o.

Now I have a budget of £300 for a mobo... ide like to have a good solid mobo which will in the future support a multi GPU setup. (To start with i will only be using one GPU). I have done quite a large amount of reaserch but cant seem to chose between these three motherboards:

Gigabyte G1.Sniper 5 Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard -

Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI EXTREME Intel Z87-

Gigabyte Z87X-OC Force Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard-

The reason i am looking at these boards is mainly because they have a PLX chip which will allow me to use quad/three way sli in the future. My main use will be for gaming/video editing. The colour scheme is also an important factor, ide like to know which would be best to go with regarding selecting custom water cooling/modding parts that match the colour scheme... Any suggestions?

Ide also like to point out that i was previously looking at the MSI z87 Mpower Max as i really like the yellow, but once again it does not have a PLX chip.

For gaming on a 3 monitor setup would there be much of a difference between a 2way sli setup or a 4way?

Thanks again.thumb.gif

If you really aiming at 3 - 4 way sli for gaming, consider LGA 2011.
With that configuration you will be CPU limited in most titles and you really need those 40 pci-e lanes.

PLX chips could give you better framerates at ultra-high resolutions(4k+) and there 4th gpu helps in some titles, but for 3x1080p monitors it's not really worth it.
Going 3-4 way adds extra problems like power, cables, cooling, sli scaling, lowering pci-e bandwidth in sli so you should really know what you want and do tons of extra research.

Also that phantex is an awesome case thumb.gif

Going with x79 motherboard was also an option, but the price increase for the cpu wouldn't really be worth it? Bearing in mind that the x79 boards don't have as many features as the z87 am I right? I know 4 way sli can cause further problems but if I am going to be gaming on 3 monitors at 1080p I should be able to max most titles out dependant on what cards I go for right? I really like the look of the g1 sniper 5:p .. I got the case today I'm really excited to get building just don't want to rush things planning on getting a motherboard by the end of next week so I can start up! I have a few questions on water cooling btw not sure if you would know!

You have mentioned video editing in first post. It loves more cores.
You can always ask guys in surround thread if you'll be limited by z87 mobo/cpu with your planned 3-4 way sli setup.

I most likely wouldn't, but you can ask guys in watercooling thread, they're really good with helping with this.
(and if it's a complex problem, ask in post here and leave them link leading here)
