msi k8n neo2 and x-fi

First thing first, can somebody tell me how to disable onboard sound on this motherboard. (i know but i just want to double check)

My system specs:

amd 64 3800
msi k8n neo2
ati x850 xt graphic card
512 kingston ram
samsung sata 80gb

So here is my problem:

I placed the card in an empty pci slot and then installed the driver.
Everything worked fine. Then when i restarted my computer, found "new multimedia audio device" pops up. If i
try to install the driver for this "new multimedia audio device", the
driver is not installed through the provided cd.

If i shutdown my computer, swap the pci slot of the card and then reinstall the driver. It starts working fine again. But as soon as i restart my pc, the same thing happens. Please help.

Did you completely remove existing drivers before you installed the drivers for you sound card? Use DriverCleaner Pro to remove all drivers installed relating to your new and your previous sound solution, whether it be on-board or a independent card. Uninstall any software that you have installed in relation to your sound card. Restart your computer and install the sound card drivers and software. Do not let Windows manage this if you are doing so. Use product specific software and drivers provided with your sound card or get them from the manufacturers website.

Here is what I did...

-Uninstall onboard drivers.
-Restart
-Go into Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Mananger then you disable your onboard sound device which should show up under "Other Devices" and it will be labeled "Multimedia Audio Controller" with a yellow question mark next to it. You right click on that and do "Disable" then the yellow question mark will have a red X over it and it will be disabled.
-Shut down
-Install X-Fi into PCI slot
-Boot Up
-Install X-Fi drivers, with the disk.

There should be an option in the BIOS to disable the OC sound.

Uninstall all previous audio drivers.

Go to BIOS, find something with the word Onboard Audio or Multimedia, or even Azalia, and disable it.

Plug the X-Fi into any slot, and boot into Windows. Put in the X-Fi disc, and press Cancel to any Windows Update things. Use the Autorun menu to install the drivers directly from the disc

After labouring with my x-fi for five days, I stumbled upon the solution just by chance. I did two installs of windows, flashed every bios version available, used all different combination of available motherboard and x-fi driveres and nothing worked and then when i was finally gonna give up hope, i enabled my motherboard onboard audio in bios and and bingo.

Here is what you do. Don't disable sound card in your bios. Simply disable your built in sound card in device manager. Then install your x-fi and the latest drivers from creative site and you are good to go.

Hope this helps for anyone who faces the same problem. Thankyou everyone.

go into BIOS, onboard peripherals, disable sound. or something to that effect depending on your mobo. but the finite on/off is in BIOS, not windows.

One more thing....sometime clearing cmos by jumper also helps to maintain the x-fi detection for a couple of days.
