Need some help on GPU upgrade options! (Mid-Range/$200-250)

Hi guys,

New to the site and was recommended here from a friend. Hopefully, I can get some advice as I'm not up to date on current GPUs and need some help picking out an upgrade.

I have about $200-250, maybe $275 tops ,if it's really worth it for price/performance.

Games I play/plan to play:
Assassin's Creed 4
Far Cry 3
Witcher 2
Skyrim (light mods/ENB)
Fallout 3/NV (light mods/ENB)
Splinter Cell Blacklist
Tomb Raider
Mass Effect Series(Currently on 2, brand new to the series - awesome games)
Diablo 3

Occasionally, I'll play CoD/BF games, but not too much.
---

My current specs:
AMD Athlon II X4 650 @ 3.4ghz
8gb of 1333 RAM
HD3870
500w Rosewill PSU
23" Monitor @ 1080p

I've had this current card since '08 and I'm ready to retire it, playing on low is starting to kill me. I know I really need a new CPU sometime soon, but that would require a new MoBo and all, right? What I was thinking is for tax refund early next year I will do a brand new build, but keeping the GPU I plan on buying this week or so.

Also, would it be wise to wait for Black Friday/Cyber Monday to buy anything? I've never participated in online BF/CM's before so I'm not sure what they usually offer. I have to buy online as I don't live near any good electronic stores.

I don't have a preference for AMD/Nvidia, BTW, I just want the best bang for the buck.

Thanks!!

7950/7970 nothing beats those two cards at that price point

and maybe you can find a deal for a r9 280x for under 300$ ( which is an undercover 7970)

R9 280X

7970

7950

Do you think some of those might get cheaper for BF/CM? I want to buy now, but I don't want to kick myself if I could have saved some money or got one-tier better for a similar price.

No Nvidia cards in that price range are any good? What about AMDs new r9 series? the 79xx are still better in that price range?

XFX Double D FX797ATDJC Radeon HD 7970 3GB 384-bit DDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Video Card $269 after $30 rebate

If you buy on mobile and use code MBLWALLET I think you get another $10 off so you could get it for $259!

I really don't think you'll beat this deal very easily.
