If that's what AMD is getting, it's nothing, but nothing but good.

You set a very, VERY low bar for genius.

What is being shown here (shockingly rarely, I'll admit) is common sense.

That's very decent. Nothing like the price NVidia was eluding to or haters were claiming.

Keep in mind this is what they receive, not their profit so in essence this number alone says nothing at all.

Doubt it costs 100$ for them. Especially considering the sheer amount they will be producing. I'd say they get a solid 20$ profit on each console. If it sells as much as the ps3, thats over 200M profit per year.

Probably about a $100 a pop wink.gif

No way to really know unless AMD released what they spent in R&D and how much they have to pay the fab that makes it for them.

Yeah, but they retail those things at nearly 100.00, and that's boxed with a heatsink and shipped to hundreds if not thousands of outlets around the world. In the case of the PS4, they're simply moving a pallet of bare APUs to one (or 2) locations. I'm guessing they're probably clearing about $30.00 on each chip, which still isn't a bad chunk of change.

Revenue is not profit, yes.

Profit = Revenue - COST (aka Expenses : including production, R &D, paying employees & stockholders)

But as long as AMD is not LOSING money after PS4 is sold, they're good. Why? It plays into their Gaming Evolved long term strategy.

You're not taking into account any raises or increases in talent acquisition that goes into the COST.

AMD can play with the books and increase COSTS by giving more to shareholders, increasing advertising (Gaming Evolved), or paying more for new employees for example.

If AMD makes $100 per PS4 and 1 million have been sold (in only North America), that's $100M revenue.

Proof of AMD moving in the right direction:
John Gustafson (Intel)
Jim Keller (Apple) http://www.pcworld.com/article/261563/amd_plucks_new_graphics_executive_from_intel.html

Jean-Christophe Baratault (Nvidia GPGPU)
http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/jules/nvidia-tesla-champion-heads-for-amd/

+ Mac Pro win

+ ARM & companies supporting HSA

That's pretty good, in the long run this will be great for AMD and since most games nowadays are straight console ports i expect AMD GPUs to shine this gen. thumb.gif
