Help with video signal issue.

Hey guys,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum but it seemed to be the most appropriate.

At work, we have two old Emachines desktops that had not been used in a year or so. We wanted to see if they still work, but I have been having some issues. The machines power on fine, and all fans are running. However, hen powered on, nothing shows up on the monitor. It seems the monitor is recognizing something, because when the VGA cable is not plugged into the desktop, the monitor says "no signal" but when the VGA cable is then plugged in that message goes away and the screen is black.

I cannot for the life of me get this to work. Here is what I have tried:

  1. Two different monitors with different cables
  2. Different Outlets
  3. One memory DIMM at a time
  4. Brand new low-end GPU instead of onboard VGA
  5. Different PSU
  6. Reseated all connectors

Please let me know if you guys have any ideas as to what this might be. The only thing left that makes sense is the mobo/CPU.

Thanks

What kind of monitors are you using? Also are you connecting to the GPU Video output or the Motherboard Video Output?

If you monitor has an "input button" to switch input signals from HDMI, VGA, or DVI - try pressing it to cycle through the inputs to see if you can get a picture.

They are both old Acer VGA only monitors. They are being used with a different desktop and work perfectly so I do not think they are the problem. I have tried both the onboard VGA and the GPU VGA and they both produce the same result. Thanks for the suggestions!
