ok, so i got a 3770k already delidded from someone on here. when it showed up it wasn't in a clamshell and the hsf had slid around. well on the die 3 of the 4 corners are chipped. i about cried. he sent a little clu to reapply, but the syringe was empty so i just used some arctic silver came right on. well after about 3 weeks my cl pro got here and i redid it. it wouldn't boot. i tried clearing cmos, restarting a few dozen times, nothing. so i pulled the chip out cleaned off all the cl pro, and reapplied arctic silver and it comes right back on. what is the deal? i double checked when i pulled it back out and the cl was ONLY on the die, there was no extra running around shorting anything. is it cause of the chipped corners? could it be shorting the die? or is that possible? should i take it back apart and try again?

ok, thanks to all those that responded....
i decided to go ahead and try again. and i put the cl on EXCEPT the chiped corners. runs like a dream. temps dropped from 65-70 with arctic silver to 50-55 with coollabororatory pro. 15C!! i'm impressed. no way did i think it would come down that far!!!

but for you gurus i'd still like to know...can the die be shorted? or did i maybe just have it clamped crooked, or something stupid.

first off who'd you buy this from?

secondly I need pictures to diagnose the damage from the die see if the chips really are that bad.

welp lol looks like it runs. I want to assume it was an incorrect mount as sometimes that happens thumb.gif glad that its back up and running!

seriously though who sold you it.

on 2 corners they're small. . . just the point taken off, on the third corner a little worse. i don't want to put his name out there like that, cause he was a real good guy. looking back i did get one hell of a deal...wonder if it was broke before hand and thats why it was cheap. i got the cpu, raystorm block, swiftech pump, and enough tubing, and fittings to plumb my whole system...all for $265...
but i can's say for sure, and i'm not gonna point the finger at anyone unless i'm positive. shipping people have been known to rough stuff up in transit too.
