Hello

I am selling my GTX 670 ftw's while they are still worth something, so that means upgradeing to new stuff.
The problem i have is - I have no idea what to buy.

These cards are what i am thinking off right now:

1: EVGA GTX 780 Superclocked (with reference cooler because of the looks)
2: EVGA GTX 780 Classified
3: AMD 290
4: AMD 290X

I will start out with one card, and then go sli / crossfire when i feel my wallet is ready for it.

These are my thoughts so far:

Well first off, the AMD 290 has a real nice performance for its price, but since i am going crossfire i dont know if its a good choice (i had a ATI 5970 a few years back, and they had ALOT of troubles with their crossfire drivers, but when it worked it was great)

Same deal with the 290x and i dont know if the difference between the 290 and 290x is worth the extra money

EVGA GTX 780 Superclocked (ref. cooler) This is proberly the weakest card in my decesion, but i got a Corsair obsidian 900d, and i think it would look great in it.

EVGA GTX 780 classified, Not much to say here, its a great card and i really like EVGA cards since my 670 FTW's have served me well ( and Nvidia havent let me down on sli drivers.. yet )

Nvidia Shadowplay is also a pretty nice feature, since i do occasionally upload youtube vids with gameplay in them.

A few questions that also troubles me are:

The gtx 780 cards "only" got 3GB ram, is it enough for the new games? I have heard people say they use 3gb in battlefield 4 (will it matter when i only play on a 1920x1080 (120hz) screen?)

AMD Mantle - Will the 290/290x cards demolish the 780's when its released?

Hope you can help me decide.

Regards Martin

Well the only thing going against the current batch of AMD cards are the heat and noise. If you could wait, in ~2 weeks from now, we should have details of non-reference coolers that should eliminate this problem. As for drivers, AMD has already fixed it with the divers and are comparable, if not better than the competition. Also, for that one screen, any of the above cards are plenty to run even the demanding games. On AMD side you have extra VRAM & the wider Membus that'll help as you add screens and so i'd suggest the R9 290. At 400$, its offering a really good value for the buyer and the recent news that some of the 290's can be flashed to a 290x is also tempting (although only a few select brands have had success).

OP wait for 2 - 3 weeks for custom R9 290 cards and get the asus dcii top. excellent cooler and high quality custom PCB. best value for money. R9 290 easily competes with GTX 780.

I made the same self question to myself but with my two Gigabytes 670.Then my walet and common sense made me get the decission,If you have enough for a GTX 780 ti ...for 50 euros moore you can get a crossfire of r9 290,Is a simpole equation,And if you thin in therms of crossfire or sli systems,,,,if you can save 100 euros in a graphic card and have almost the same potential...multiply it for two and you get 200 euros.Yes 200 euros is a big hole in your pocket,
So i got r9 290.IAnd is my poersonal recomendation that you get one of those too,

Thanks for all the posts / votes so far.
The r9 290 is very tempting, but first when we get the custom cards
Even tho it seems like a bad decesion i am also very tempted to buy a GTX 780 Classy, since i really like EVGA cards.
But yea, i will wait till the custom AMD cards are out and make my decesion when we see how good they are.

I have a "MSI 670 PE OC" right now and am very tmpted to buy the R9 290 ... with a waterblock of course biggrin.gif

GTX780 is not worth the effort now, GTX780Ti is a very good Card !!! ... but is way to expensive. R9 290X seems pretty awesome, but with a custom cooled R9 290 i think it is possible to reach the bigger sister/brother.

R9 290 voted ... anyone cares for a "MSI GTX670 PE OC" from GER rolleyes.giftongue.gif
