PC won't play any games. Very strange. Please help.

This is my sig rig.

No matter what game I boot up, the screen flickers one, and it crashes. Then every other open program crashes afterwards. I am able to shut the PC off safely. Explorer does not crash. However no program can open and stay open for more than... 20 seconds or so. The windows programs also flicker before crashing.

It can be any game from Sleeping Dogs to a simple DuckTales Remastered (2D) on steam. What can I do? Should I re install Direct X? Is my GPU bad? I am running GPUTool right now and doing a torture test. Everything seems fine.

If anyone has any ideas, please post them.

The problem is solved. The thread may be closed/deleted. Thank you GerBem.

First thing I'd try is re-installing Direct X

Well I was about to say maybe you have a bad overclock, but if you're stress testing and it doesn't crash it might not be that.

If you do have it overlocked, revert it to stock and see if that helps.
Also, make sure to update the drivers!

That's where I'd start anyways. Beyond that I would try re-installing Direct X and if that doesn't work maybe re-flashing your GPU bios...but use that as a last resort.

It does seem like a strange problem!

A thing you can try is re-install all the drivers. That might work...

Windows won't let me re install Direct X! Every time I try, I get a message "Setup has detected a newer version of Direct X on your system." And it refuses to proceed!

I already reinstalled the GPU drivers. Any more I should get to? Sound is working fine.

I'm re installing a game now that is bundled with DirectX, hoping that forces it to re install Direct X. The standalone installer will not let me proceed.

UPDATE: Games that run OpenGL are working fine. It must be Direct X. I am also re installing .NET framework too.

You can go into the Registry and change the DirectX version in there, so Windows will "think" an older version is installed, and let you install DirectX again. Let me find a link to that for you.

there it is: click

Good advice, but I am saving it for the absolute last resort.

So far, installing a game that came with Direct X seems to have allowed me to re install DX. Since my OpenGL games worked, it was definitely a DX problem.
