Actully its not a slight overclock at all. Its 100 mhz on the core and 80 on the memory. The 7950GT can be OC'd farther than the 7900GT anyway.

But if you want the MIR then get the 7950GT with the MIR
if not
the XFX 7900GT for 199.99

ok, i think im gonna go for that 7900gt, thnx guys +reps

Edit: but that tom's hardware thing shows the x1950pro does better in most situtuations, only loses in a few high res situations, and im 1280x1024, so that card is lookin better for me

so its down to one of of these two

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161060

and don't give me any nvidia or ati biased crap, i want the best card for my money

Read through the following review -
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...f7900gs_8.html

Lot of pages of games testing. They also test a number of ATi and nVidia cards, but not only giving the average fps, really take notice of the minimum fps - this is where you'll really notice lag. Hypothetically speaking, if it comes out as 50 nvidia / 40 ati at average fps, but 20 nvidia / 30 ati at minimum fps then you're gonna notice the lag on the nVidia card a lot more.

Basically i'd say pick whichever performs better for the games you have. But i think you answered your own question...

the X1950PRO is a better value at 1600x1200 res and above while OC'd the 7900GS is just as good of a value. Still weaker in some cases but its also cheaper. Since you said 200 bucks pretty much exactly I'd get the XFX 7900GT they have for 199
post #36 of 76
Sora did you read the review i posted? The 7900GT comes out with some worryingly low minimum fps scores for my liking, and the 7900GS needed to be heavily overclocked to overtake the *stock* X1950 Pro. The logic follows that if you want to overclock, the X1950 Pro gives the best starting point.

Not even thinking of that, the X1950 Pro is only $189 if you've actually looked so he'd be saving $10...

Oh and another thing, if you look a few pages back on that review, the X1950 Pro cooler is very quiet - on a par with the 7900GS and a fair bit quieter than the 7900GT. Doesn't count for much, but when the cards are this close, every little helps.

Honestly the loudest thing in my case are my 2 120mm apevia fans which are only 29.98dBA...the fan really isnt that loud at all.

Either way the 7900GT OC'd will beat the X1950PRO for the 10 bucks its worth. Just as the X1950PRO will beat the 7900GS for the 20+ bucks its worth. If he wants the best 200 card might as well just get the one thats the best for exactly 200 then no?

All you need is a $6 conductive pen from any electronics store.
