Hard lock in 8.1

Thread Starter
Hi guys.

I'm having a problem in Windows 8.1. I upgraded to an i7 960 and gigabyte g1 sniper. This was a month or so ago. All was fine. But now a week ago I started getting these hard lockups. No blue screen, nothing. Seems to be more prevalent when browsing or doing other non demanding tasks. I have to reset. Nothing in the event viewer or any evidence anything went wrong. I restored my bios settings to defaults so it's not an over clock. In googling I found a couple solutions, mainly being to enable hyper v which didn't solve the problem. So basically does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for what's causing this? It seems to be happening more and more frequently. Thanks!

Sounds to me like a low voltage idle unstable clock. Pull up CPUs and what voltage minimum do you get when idiling?
I'd set the cpu voltage to manual and try and bump up the idle voltage a tad.
