Is it worth downgrading (4670 + mobo) to new build + wc

Thread Starter
I currently have an i7 3820, ASUS Rampage IV Formula, and r9 290. The 290 is being held back even with aftermarket aircooling so I'd really like to go with h20 at this point. Now the SB-E build is EXTREME overkill for me right now: I've sold or donated most of the gpu's I had laying around for benching for car repairs/bills/misc, I don't have much time in general for messing around with my hardware due to school, and I don't do any sort of editing/heavy process work. I game from time to time and web surf at this point so my thoughts are a 4670k + UD4H will serve me better (less power, higher fps clock for clock in games, etc...).

The loop I planned is going to cost about $400 including a 290 block, cpu block, d5 pump, 400mm or 360mm rad, and misc. Figuring that I can get around $210 for the 3820, maybe $280 for the motherboard, and selling off my h80i + some other aftermarket cooling, I should be able to break even picking up a 4670k + motherboard combo at micro center or hunting down some used hardware.

Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks.

few extra fps might be worth it but you gonna deal heat issues on new haswell coz intel uses cheap tim under the IHS unless u delid it plus you gonna sacrifice quad channel support and other features on x79 (if thats not the big deal its fine with dual). it will save u money and going custom loop watercool would be awesome. just find good deal on i5 4670k and mobo, and u good to go thumb.gif
