Sweet I dig that photon pump actually. I just gotta see if I'll be able to mount it somewhere.

Sorry I forgot to mention I already got a 7970 with the EK block along with it.

When I read the title to this thread I thought the OP was asking for general things that first time builders overlook, not info on specific parts. What I overlooked with my first loop was making sure the loop could be drained easily (with no chance of water spilling on electronic components) and designing my loop so that it could be easily disassembled. If you must cut your tubing to disassemble your loop I feel you could have done better. The next most common mistake I think people make is getting the idea that water cooling is so hard to do.

That is a very good point actually, never thought of that.

Here's what I have so far, what do you guys think? More importantly, will those barbs work with the tubing? Should I also get some clamps, or how do these barbs actually work?

I'll also be probably getting the D5 Photon, along with the EK 7970 block I have.

That rad is high density, will 1200RPM fans work? I like that design because the plugs are offset; one in the front, and one in the back. I think it would look cleaner. Any comments on that? Or maybe https://www.dazmode.com/store/product/slim_high_density_triple_120mm_radiator_xspc_ex360/ would be better?

Appreciate all the help smile.gif

Fittings:

1. You don't >have< to use metal clamps sold by PC water cooling retailers. You can use zip ties, plastic clamps, or even worm hose clamps.

2. Personally I avoid 90 degree fittings as much as possible. They add quite a bit of restriction to the loop and also much more expensive than normal fittings. Remember, tubing can bend easily and you can obtain fairly tight radiuses.

Radiator:

1. The FPI is not as important as the radiator thickness when it comes to lower RPM fans. You should be fine using 1200 rpm fans.

2. I haven't heard anything good or bad about the crossflow versions. They seem to perform just as well as the normal kind, although they are physically longer.

Hmm, I figured the 90 degree fittings would be good for the 7970 block so it doesnt kink.

If you can avoid a 90 degree fitting without much issue, then it's probably a good idea, but in reality 90 degree fittings don't have a huge impact. They may add some flow restriction to the loop, but it would take approximately thirty 90 deg fittings to have a 1C negative impact on a typical loop, or so Martin's testing says ...

Hm.. guess I'll have to take some more measurements and see if I should just get straight ones.

I think I'm gonna keep the 90* fittings.. shouldn't be a problem I hope. This is my final build I think.. Thoughts?
