Broadwell CPUs to be soldered directly to Motherboards

Thread Starter
I just came across this and thought I'd post about it here for anyone who hasn't heard.

According to Xbitlabs, Intel's Haswell Chips will be the last mainstream processors to be sold separately from their respective motherboards. It would seem Intel is trying to destroy the ability for users to choose their motherboard, as well as use an older board with their Broadwell processor.

$$$$ sadly. Hopefully they will change their mind. What about failure and damage? this causes problems for manufacturers that would need to produce one of each type.

Since then Intel has gone back on this decision. That news is old.

If haswell is any preview they are probably moving more of the power regulation on chip. Which may mean overclocking, for people that want to, won't be motherboard restrictive. Speculation on my part. To clarify, if you have a crappy motherboard it wouldn't matter as far as the CPU is concerned. As long as you can change the multiplier.

Other thought, how many of you don't change your motherboard with your CPU? Especially with Intel chips. Even AMD is switching sockets regularly now. Why not just solder it down and get better a better connection between the CPU and motherboard?

Aside from that, this is speculation, but I would not be surprised if they did.
