MSI g45-z77a issues

Thread Starter
I picked up this motherboard from the sale they had for another computer and it's been pretty strange. I seem to be having two big issues with it so far. I have tried BIOS's 2.9 2.A 2.B 2.C

The first thing is, I have two displays hooked up but no matter which video card I hook up this motherboard seems to add a mystery 3rd display when I look in my Screen Resolution setting. This mystery 3rd screen does not show up when I am using onboard video only. I have the motherboard set to use PEG which supposedly makes it PCIe slot instead of onboard video.

The second thing is, I cannot get the POST or splash screen to show if I have a video card hooked up. It just boots straight in to windows. Fast boot or any other quick boot option is not on. I have cleared CMOS and left everything normal and still nothing. The only way I can get in to the BIOS is to use the onboard video.

These issues may be related but I'm not sure. Thanks for any help. I tried searching but I guess this isn't a common issue and most I saw didn't have fixes that worked.

willing to bet they are both related. I would think it's either the BIOS or one of those actual monitors giving you problems... most likely BIOS.
have you disabled the on-board graphics altogether? almost seems like it's loading the on-board first, then switching to the pcie after the splash. you should still be able to get to BIOS if you hit the button (del, bakspace, whatever...) it just might not display on pcie video if it still hadn't switched from on-board. try setting PEG to PCIE if you can. also try in a single monitor setup and see if one of those monitors shows up as two. I have a vizio tv that always freaks my computers out. they don't see it as a normal monitor and they always have strange resolution if I don't turn tv on before I turn on comp. side note- it also F's up my windows (fullscreen and size/shape) and makes them shrink as small as they will go when I let the pc go to sleep. no other monitor does that to my rigs...

just shot in dark- make sure that primary monitor is not connected with any adapters or through switch (ie- HDMI hub) to make sure your board instantly sees it during boot. second monitor shouldn't matter so much.
