[Build Log] Zippy's Temjin TJ08B-EW Micro ATX Water Cooled "Maxx'd Out" gaming/HT rig.

Howdy folks, doing up a nice gaming rig for me and my son. Trying to do a build with all top tier components, but on the cheap. So far I have purchased 3 of the main components.

A. ASROCK z87m OC formula mother board. ($160 shipped)
B. 16gigs (4x4gig)of G. Skill 2133 RAM ($105 shipped)
C. i7 4770k CU ($199 from Micro center..........assuming the store manager honors his word when I go to pick up tomorrow evening.....that's a whole nother story wink.gif )

So next on the list is the case and power supply. I basically have it narrowed to 2 cases. All depends on funds.

Choice A. Case Labs Mercury S5. $325 the way I want it configured.
Choice B. Silverstone's Temjin TJ08B-EW $100 bucks shipped.

So it will all depend on funds available......probably going to be the Temjin though.

Also up next on the list, power supply. Something in the 850 watt range I assume. Will only be doing LIGHT overclocking if any(stability is main key). But will be running a pair of high end video cards. Probably will start off with either a single 290, 290x or GTX 780 or 780ti depending on price, and will eventually sli/xfire.

So will be looking at doing a power supply that can handle 2 video cards, a pair of ssd's and a 3rd storage HD, an optical drive, a few fans and water pump.

Regardless, anyone with killer deals on power supplies that will meet my needs(Power supply needs to be FULLY MODULAR and if going with the Temjin case 160mm in length or less. And it needs to be mfg'd by either Seasonic(Km3 etc), Super Flower(Leadex), Flextronix(Corsair AX "I" series), or Delta. In other words, the PS have to be top shelf, but will take any of the listed. Total price is what matters. On a major budget. smile.gif

SSD's will probably be Samsung 840 Pro's(2 in Raid 0, so 64,128 or 256gig each, whatever gets me the best deal to hold the operating system WIndows 7 x64, and a dozen or so games) along with a 2-3 TB drive, probably from Seagate. Cheap again.

Already have a slim BD drive from a laptop. Will get a drive bay adaptor and re use it, found a good combo drive bay adaptor from startech.com that fits the BD optical slim drive and a pair of hot swap bays for 2.5" drives. That means I will still have at least 1 drive bay still free, to use for maybe a fan controller or a reservoir.

If I grab the Temjin case, will be looking at fitting in 2 radiators. A 180mm one and a 120mm one. Will start off by cooling the CPU solo, then eventually both GPU's as well. Will have a quality pump high flow/pressure pump and reservoir as well.

Will only be running this rig at 1080p single screen..........high frame rates at max settings is the name of the game. Will be picking up an Asus 24" 144hz monitor very soon.

Any suggestions, links to deals on equipment etc will be greatly appreciated.

If on a 'major budget' I don't see the sense in getting the case that costs 325% the other one... So I'd say go with the Silverstone out of those 2!

You can spend the extra $235 on other things

Yep.......its probably going to be what I do......I just love the Case Labs micro atx setup, and the modular expandability.

K......picked up the XFX BEFX 850w PS made by Seasonic(KM3) Snagged this puppy up for $115 shipped. Decent enough deal.

Still waffling on the case though.......Cooler Master XB EVO, Temjin TJ08B-EW.......maybe even an SG10B............since I do have an extra slimline BD drive on hand............still haven't ruled out Fractal's Arc mini R2 or the 350D from Corsair............too many choices.........problem is nothing in front of me to touch or play with.....making my decisions based off pics and others feedback here on the forums..........

OK, well case is bought and on the way. Went with the BF deal, the Fractal Designs Arc Midi R2. Can't beat $50 bucks.

So far pretty well UNDER budget. Always a good thing.

At $680 to date:

A. z87m OC Formula MB
B. i7 4770k
C. 16gigs(4x4gb) of G Skill Sniper 2133 RAM
D. XFX 850w BEFX modular PS(Km3)
E. Intel 7260 ac half mini pcie card w/bluetooth and dual band antennas
F. Fractal Designs Arc Midi R2 Mid tower case

Now just need to grab ssd's, drive bay adaptor, video cards, monitor.

Update, didn't like the Fractal Design case......sent it back.........picked up the Silverstone Temjin TJ08B-EW(new windowed version) instead. EN route now. biggrin.gif Wanted something as small as possible, with no real design flaws..........something that is hard to find I found out. thumb.gif

Update: Bought 4 more items for the build.

A. Icy Dock MB994IPO-3SB http://www.icydock.com/goods.php?id=149

Its a Sata Slim ODD + 2 SSD drive bay dock, hot swappable/Raid capable. Allows me to free up space and use the other 5.25" bay for a reservoir.

B. 2 250gb Samsung 840 EVO SSD's to be used in Raid 0 to start(will grab 2 more down the road and do Raid 10 when funds allow)

C. LG BT30n Blu-ray burner slim ODD

Once all the stuff comes in will update with pics thumb.gif

Next up will be the video cards. I will be doing most likely a pair of 780's. I doubt I'll be able to squeeze into a pair of 780ti's......unless I just start off with one and wait a few months on the 2nd one.

This build is going to be water cooled. I will be using at least a single 180mm Magicool radiator. Im just not sure if one radiator and a single 5.25" bay reservoir would be enough to cool both the cpu and a pair of 780's.................the cpu and gpus will at MOST be mildly OC'd......possibly not at all. Guess it all boils down to how well it can cool.

Another though is to air cool the CPU with a Noctua unit and then water cool the GPU's, or vice versa................would love to water cool all 3 but not necessary probably in my case since the unit will never be subjected to extreme OCing or abuse. Its basically a HT/gaming rig.

Hey Zippy why not look at the Phobya Xtreme 200mm Rad thumb.gif

They also still use the 180mm fan, Saves $$ biggrin.gif
