If you go to Purdue surely there are facebook groups or specific websites for you to buy and sell from other people affiliated with the college? I cannot imagine that being a school that doesn't have one, as all colleges do these days. I'd say try selling it there to any sort of engineering/bioinformatics/statistics major or grad student if you can. Craigslist is pretty much the only way to go other than that. I've successfully sold a $900 ASUS G53 gaming laptop (half the price, I know) but met in a public place (shopping area, tables outside of restaurants more specifically) and let the person look it over, boot it up and everything. It's easy to sell a laptop in public unlike other items such as a furniture or what have you. The person will probably try haggling but they didn't bother to meet up with you to just say no, so don't feel overly pressured to bring your price down. BUT, you need to price it right in your ad. It needs to be a really good price to actually get someone interested, and then you just have to stand firm and not be talked lower in person.
