Stick with Windows 7 pro 64?

Hello I Currently have windows 7 pro 64. I first had XP pro And for a brief time I had 32 bit windows 7 do to a disk mistake. I finally have been using the pro 64 bit version and I really like it. Compared to XP to me it is night and day. I like how I can set windows 7's menus to operate the way XP did. Just recently my Brother "who works at a computer repair and networking place" Gave me a copy of Windows 8.1 pro 64 and told me I could use that if I wanted. But I am not sure I need too, I just updated everything in windows 7 and I have all my games installed and everything set just the way I like it. Is windows 8.1 worth going through the hassle of setting everything up again? Because if I do install it, I will do a format and fresh install Because in the past from installing windows I learned its best. Is windows 8.1 any better than 7? I don't see much of a gain except the full DX 11.1 version vs the base DX 11.1 version in 7. Will my games do any better in 8.1? So far with 7 every game has been smooth. Feels weird as I am actually still fairly new to 7. I guess I just need opinions of people who have experienced both OS's with Gaming rigs.

I would think you need a higher end system to notice the additional performance, if a game does indeed benefit from Windows 8.

Stick with 7, in it's current state Windows 8.1 isn't as polished as it should be. The only thing you would be gaining is slightly improved performance with very little to no improvement in gaming, so stick with the solid and stable Win 7 for now.

Most people agree, windows 7 is still a good OS. However, windows 8/8.1 is more likely to have mixxed opinions, some say it works fine and others say it sucks. My opinion? Just stick with windows 7 thumb.gif

Only reason I would upgrade to Windows 8 64bit is if you play BF4. Very good FPS gains. It's the only reason I upgraded. I personally found Windows 7 service pack 1 a lot more polished then windows 8.1.

Not gonna lie, I've spent at least 10 hours troubleshooting software issues for the last two weeks since I installed windows 8.1.

Yup, same.

Upgraded for BF4 as I get it for free through Dreamspark cause of my education and only for BF4.

Took me a week or two as well to fix the not installing .net framework 3, failing and missing admin rights, ClassicShell start menu hacks, failing UAC options..

I finally got it working properly now and I made a clean system image on my external HDD lol.

Like the crap you have to go through now with a new game (some install smooth) But some are a pain just to get going. You have to prove your own game you bought and paid for is yours and after that its still not good enough. You have to look up errors and read post after post, and then if your lucky you can get your game to work. Its crazy man. Max Payne 3 was one I had great trouble with. I never thought I would get it to work. I still can't play it online but at least I can play it now. I hope this improves in the future (But I suppose in a way it does kinda make it feel like a great reward once you can play but that's messed up man) Back when I was using just my old 9800GTX+ Installing Crysis 3 was even easier than Max Payne 3 , And I had to use the DX 10 patch for Crysis 3 to work with the older card But it was still easier.
