Need help choosing a router for Fibre broadband

Thread Starter
I switched to a Fibre ISP and realised shortly that the router given to me was a pile of rubbish and has trouble reaching the first floor of my house, and after maybe a day or two searching for a router, I've narrowed it down to 4 of them but I'd really like some help in choosing the best one out of all of them.

Firstly, my house has 2 floors (ground, first and second) and I need the signal to be able to reach the top floors. Secondly, at any given time, there are 4-5 people connected via phones and laptops so I don't want there to be any kind of bottlenecks. The router I'm currently using has trouble hitting speeds over 3mbps when more than 3 people are connected.

I've chosen these 4 -

D-Link

Buffalo

Asus

TP-Link

Am I right in thinking that choosing any out of the 4 will give me the performance I need? & out of them, which is the best?

Thanks.

The Asus RTN66U, hands down the best. Going for just over the £100 mark now. If you get it consider using the Merlin firmware (built on the stock Asus one) or if you want even more out of it then my personal favourite Shibby's Tomato firmware. Even with the stock firmware it will probably serve your needs more than adequately. Drop me a PM if you need any advice on it.

Thanks for the reply. I'm curious, what will a custom firmware do for me that the stock one won't?

There are quite a few advanced features that you (or I) may not use but the ones that I use are the VPN which for me is better implemented on Shibby as also is the IPv6 which I use for Usenet. I also use the built in torrent client so my computer doesn't need to be on if downloading a torrent when I'm tucked up fast asleep. More details are here http://tomato.groov.pl/?page_id=81
