Hi all
I have a MI-A78S-8209 motherboard also called xfx geforce 8200
The problem im having is finding either the 1.6 or 1.7 bios update
I've been to the xfx support site and to my suprise there support has become limited completly so unfortunatly i cannot get this update
I'm in need of this so my motherboard can detect the 810 denab that's install and to also allow for the 965 BE that i have installed but this proccesor got locked out at 800mhz
So my question is does anybody have the bios update
Again thanks all

UPDATE: Got it!!!
Seems that registering an account with XFX support proved rather useless for motherboard bios updates. They simply send you to a page with two giant logo's showing that of AMD and NVIDIA. Clicking either of them directs you to the respective manufacturers site for drivers only. Further, the other links found direct to 'http://www.xfxsupportb.co.uk/' which is a long dead site link which used to be the source XFX would direct their customers to for bios updates and so forth. Otherwise the only other matches for the ISO would come up with dead links to the afmentioned location or the PAY-TO-DOWNLOAD sites..

Then I came across another page which mentioned the bios FILE itself that was extracted from the ISO's...

Its AMI bios as far as I know. Bios version 1.6 is available on the XFX website in ISO format...

http://www.xfxsupportb.co.uk/MI-A78S...IOS_V6_ISO.zip

On opening or mounting the ISO file i do not see any file inside. I tried to open it with amitools 1.28 but says "BIOS Size not valid". Can someone please help me out to mod it...or how to get the actual .rom file from the ISO...
It is a CD ISO but the file is in the boot image. Extract this using UltraISO or Universal Extractor. Then extract this image with Universal Extractor. File is called XA78SV16.ROM.

Which looking for the ROM name itself brought me to the coup-de-grace...

http://xfxstorage.com/Support/BIOS/Motherboard/730a-8200/Floppy/
^This XFXStorage location contains all the bios ROM versions up to the latest 1.8 for your board. Further up the path tree seems to show all the drivers, bios, etc from XFX that you cannot get directly from their site any longer so will be a potent resource for anyone further seeking such updates.

Goodluck with your board and hope you get the results you've been looking for!

Also.. along the way I came across an FAQ detailing how to get sound over HDMI since it seems to have been a common problem for such users of said board so figure it might also be of use to you. http://web.singnet.com.sg/~mcheng/8209.htm

Hi all, just a little update. I've been able to flash the rom i needed however the rom will not verify upon being flashed, luckerly the board im using has a dual bios but im wondering if the file source may be corrupt or if there's anything im doing wrong
I'd taken the AMI. bat and the rom and ofcourse the asud files and place them on a usb pen that can post into dos, however does anyone know anybetter method of flashing my board ?

According to the link also posted at the end of my response - did you try this?
Code:
Still can't work after flashing? Encountered any of these before and wonder why?

A1. Flashed new BIOS but failed during verification?
A2. Processor overclocked unintentionally (can be seen during bootup)?
A3. Can't boot to other devices(dvd-rom, cd-rom, etc.) except for hard drive?

A1-A3 occurred because your mainboard is set to use the overclock BIOS chip.
Refer to JBIOS jumper on your board, short 2 and 3 to use overclock BIOS,
short 1 and 2 to use normal BIOS.

You will be able to flash your BIOS correctly once set JBIOS to pin 1 and 2.
One way to overcome A3. while overclock would be to use F11 during BIOS bootup.
(same way to enter BIOS/CMOS setup with "DEL" key).

Still can't flash your BIOS after changing BIOS chip?

B1. Swap your overclock BIOS chip with your normal BIOS chip and try again.
Note the notch to install chip correctly.

Hi all just a little update, got the bios booting fine with the 1.8 update, turns out that after the flash your able to boot up fine until you set your bios to load defaults, now i'm not sure if this is the same for all boards but this is the fix i had to make to allow the board to continue to post afterwords, under boot setting turn i9 interrupts of your board will boot up just fine. on a completely different note however ill be looking to replace the 810(denab) i have installed in the for mentioned mobo with a 965 black addition, and yes before anyone states the obvius about the board only supporting 85w cpu's i can safly say ive installed a 965 BE into the board be fore the update and it posted fine however it would only read the cpu as 800mhz , If im right this would have been due to a read error of the bios not understanding the model of the cpu. i will keep you all updated on my findings so far my build consists of

AMD(810) looking to install AMD(965)
8GB kingston Hyper X 1066Mhz
Gforce 210 looking to upgrade to a 560ti

Just be careful regardless with that board if it's only for 85watt processors. The board may be able to work fine but it will put much more strain on the VRM's. As a precautionary measure I would suggest at least ensuring they are well cooled even to the point of having a spot cooler/small fan directed on them to keep their heat under control when putting higher wattage processors on it. The only other reason it might be only showing 800watt otherwise is that it's being downclocked to keep with VRM limitations for the safety of the board.

If anything try using k10stat or some other tool to adjust the clocks and see if it can be overridden. Just be again mindful of the VRM strain.

yes agreed the VRM are already getting extra cooling, extra heat pipes have been made however, the board it the V'2 so it can support 125w cpu, but 85w was the previus lockout smile.gif
