I apologize, but just need quick help

Thread Starter
I know there are most likely a million threads and such on this and I have read them but forget, so I apologize in advance for asking about this. But to the point, I have a single 8800gts at stock and an e6300 oc'ed to 2.8 (light oc will bump it up some more in a month or so). Anyway I want to OC my 8800gts. I have downloaded Ati tool and my 8800gts runs at 52 idle....or as I am typing this...I have the fan speed bumped up to 100%. I also have a thermaltake armor series case and a Zalman on my cpu and pretty good airflow...my oc'ed 6300 never gets over 45 or so no matter what I am doing, counterstrike, quake 4 etc. But anyway....I know I bump up the core and mem clocks on ati tool and check for artifacts and monitor the temps of the gpu etc. So I guess my only questions are by what increments should I bump the core/mem clocks respectively after each artifact test........How long should I let each artifact test run......and what should my temp ceiling for my gpu be? Like when should i know to stop and keep my card below this temp? Thanks for ALL help and HAPPY NEW YEARS!

I'd say 10/20 (Core/Mem in Mhz) increments before 600/1000, and then down to 5/10 until you reach max. ATiTool 0.26 is good enough.

Dont exceed 80C.

Up the mhz by 5 at a time. Overclock the core and test for artifacts for 5-10 mins. If you see any yellow dots then lower it by 2 and test again. When its fine move onto the memory.

i like ati tool personally. you also have the option to find max mem and find max core it increases each until artifacting occurs. then after you have done each you will have a rough estimate of what kind of oc you can get, of course they will each be lower when you increase them together.

Dont do it that way. For many it does not yield good results and it normally just restarts or something along those lines. Just do it yourself and test for artifacts.
