I have some friends wanting me to buy one of these. I have having trouble coming to grips with the idea of buying a device mainly for gaming that is considered "next gen" that can only play games at 1600x900 @ 30FPS at best. I know there is some very dedicated xbox players out there but 500? For a barely 2005 resolution?

I don't mean to bash but i have viewed a few games on 360 and xbox one in the store and is 720p vs 900p even noticeably different on a 1080p TV? I remember going from ps1 to ps2 and xbox to xbox360 and being just about blown away. Now it just seems game and graphics innovation has become a side note. I am frequently told "you can do everything with it".......well i am pretty sure we have had computers for years that you can do "everything" with and consoles main focus was great graphics and games for relatively low cost compared to PC(and with less overhead).

It doesn't seem that way anymore considering you con buy a budget PC for 300-400 and then get a maybe say GTX570(or AMD equivalent) off ebay for like 100 bucks and destroy both of the new "next gen" consoles(xbone/ps4). Plus with the installing of games, constant updates due to broken games, constant DLC(with cost premiums), add on hardware, multiple subscriptions, and insane stock game prices there is nothing short of the same(or greater in some cases) overhead/hassle that you would get with any PC.

So other than the relatively well layout of the xbox community what exactly am i buying outside of what has already been done years ago on PC that is just being a bit over hyped with xbox? I am sure that many will dis-agree and think the multitude of features(which are not new at all) is worth it but i am far from convinced. Would it have been better for gaming to be more of the focus?

I have read into the console quite a bit and looked into the PS4 so i do have a relative knowledge base under what i am saying. I have links to the hardware specs, the feature set(or apps rather really), the games list, all the multiple subscriptions(that require separate), etc. I have even got to mess around with a friends xbone for a bit(which is where i started to question the actual graphics improvement). So at this point i would say my decision is a relatively informed decision except for community advice.

My question is giving what i have just said and pointed out has the xbox become a very illogical purchase(outside of friends/community)? What are your thoughts are these thoughts?

Hopefully this isn't looked as trolling because it is not meant to be.

PS. I forgot to mention being forced to see ads on the home screen even with a paid subscription(gold).

Well after paying Ryse on my parents Xbox, it really makes me want to buy one. It's the most fun I've had in a long time, and I haven't played console games for years. I had a PS4 that I got on launch day, but it just wasn't doing it for me, it didn't seem like anything different from a PS3, except for a few shiny blue lights, and better graphics of course. The Xbox is a whole new experience, I mean incorporating voice into games, successfully? I was just entertained the whole time.

But I also want to purchase a Wii U, as I never played any Wii games, and Smash Bros. is coming out next year!
I have also been wanting to pick up an iPad Air.

Ugh so many decisions, what do I do?!

Don't look at specs or else you're going to be unhappy no matter what.
I snipped out a lot because I'm tired, so please excuse me for that. redface.gif

I went from a PS4 to an Xbox One because I was looking at specs.. but left friends out of the equation of friends, hoping I could persuade some of them to join the light side...which didn't work.
The difference between the systems on a 55" Samsung UN55ES7100 and a 27" Asus MX279H is very little in Battlefield 4, while playing the game you won't notice a thing. If you stop and compare them side by side you're obviously going to notice it.
I've never seen a forced ad on anything on my Xbox One.

Personally, I'm going to pick up a PS4 later when they're cheap for SP games and I'll keep the One for FPS MP games and my friends. Select one by your game preference and where your friends are at and nothing else.

the only thing i really see you leaving out is exclusive titles, which is why i buy all consuls, halo ( say what you want, feels better to me on a controller, with the poor ending of halo 4 { oppinion } as an exception been able to have a great story so far ) gears, god of war, and the zelda series to name a few

Well I'm having second guesses when it comes to buying an Xbox One. I found a deal on eBay from a reputable seller who's selling a Day One edition with Dead Rising 3 for $450. He only opened it to test the Blu-Ray drive and said it's all good.

I am just worried about the failure rate at this point, I know he tested it, but what is something happens? Am I still covered?
