It's an example of a necessary feature missing. When I play, I use headphones through my AV receiver. There's no way for me to hear voice chat because it's impossible to use a headset with headphones.
Yours does not work perfectly because you've only used it the way that it works for you, which does not work for me. I'd link you, but in the last 48 hours Microsoft has removed the page with the wrong information. Here's what it said:
"You can adjust the audio voice options for your chat headset by going to Settings on your console and selecting Sound. There you’ll find options for having audio go through your speakers, headset, or both."
