Need Help Before Cloning.

Thread Starter
Guys, my PC today just said I have some impending hard drive failure

"Windows detected a hard disk problem."

Restarted PC and is said something like

"S.M.A.R.T. FAIL"

I have an extra hard drive that is the same size but it also has windows and is partitioned.

How do I prepare that drive so I can clone into it?

Do I just format it in windows or something?

I would appreciate some help, please smile.gif

This troubles me.. you know how to clone, but don't know how to prep a drive that has a Windows partition on it? tongue.gif Sure you can format it in Windows, most cloning software will warn you when you're about to push the clone through that its going to wipe the partition, depending on your method.

lol

Well, I tried to watch this on youtube:

Recommended to use the Free EaseUS Todo Backup Free.

He was talking about a "fresh drive bought from the store" and I don't know how to prep the drive in that status (if I have to).

I've never made a back up before until a few hours ago. Never cloned a drive either.

My attempted backup of a partition a few hours ago seemed to have failed. I think the external HDD from w/c I was backing up stuff to, "slept" (either the internal drive or the external). It's one of those Seagate USB 3.0 drives that probably has issues for when transferring large files.

Any ideas what I should do?
