Is it a 1080p 24" monitor or a 1440p 24" monitor?

What games/programs will you be running?

Do you have any plans for overclocking your card?

Do you have any plans to water cool your video card?

Do you have about $1400 for a pair of GTX 780Ti's on air cooling or $1100 for a pair of R9 290X's on air or $1340 for a pair of R9 290X's and waterblocks?

How susceptible/concerned are you to heat and noise?

Do you play in Windowed Mode or full screen?

Do you plan on getting a 4K monitor in the next 12-18 months?

Do you plan on going to multiple monitors in the next 12-18 months?

Do you have any interest in either G-Sync technology or Mantle?

Both cards are good choices, but the devil is really in the details.

Go for a 780Ti SLi, better cooling if you are not going to change coolers.
And in many ways nvidia cards has been far better choice for me, no messing with constant driver updates.
780Ti Sli performs better that 290X cf

I've never seen a 24 inch 1440p monitor in my life.
