Samsung 840 PRO 128 GB vs Intel 530 180 GB?

840 PRO costs currently $175
530 costs $163

Is it worth it to get the 840 PRO 128 GB over the cheaper 180 GB Intel 530?

I would personally get the Intel 530 180gb. You can grab it this weekend on NewEgg for $149.99 (11/23/2013 till Monday 11/25 or until they sell out which is always possible). The Samsung is currently $142.50. I just bought the Samsung 840 Pro 128gb last week on NewEgg for $144.50 and am kicking myself right now as I would really prefer to have the extra room. They are both very evenly matched. The 840 pro in many tests only slightly exceeds overall performance but we are talking mere nano-seconds here..not full seconds and really the sequential read seems to have the most general importance overall and in that case they are both dead even.

Only in a few other areas does the 840 barely squeak by the 530. The 4Kb random read / writes of the 530 are 41k / 49k IOPS compared to the 97k / 90k IOPS of the Samsung. So yes the Samsung wins there. (but will you actually notice that ???) If anything I think overall read speed (for me at least) is always much more important than write speed assuming the write is generally fast compared to other similar drives. And again, from what I've read in various places the Sequential Read seems to be the most important factor to consider overall and in that case the Samsung is actually 10mb less (540 MB/s compared to 530 MB/s). Again, the difference here is probably 1/1000th of a second.

Considering you are getting 52 gigs more storage with the Intel 530 for just $8 more I would grab it up today! I might just do so myself and will see about a return on the 840. I use a WD Vraptor 150gb right now as my C drive and even keeping it really clean with minimal programs and no games I am always using ~100 gigs. I'd really like to have that 80gb of breathing room over just an extra 28gb. This way I could put 4 or 5 games or more on it too. On a final note, and because SSDs are SSDs I still won't plan to use the SSD for a lot of routine file moving..(docs, PDFs, JPEGs, MP3s, movies, etc) as I don't want to wear it down prematurely. All that stuff I will make sure to keep on a 500gb Vraptor. thumb.gif

I live in EU, i listed prices. I thought of getting the Intel cause i did register that Samsung 840 PRO is great but that the differences is not noticeable.
