I don't know a whole lot about audio so this is a learning process for me.
I had bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 558 to hook up to my new computer with the above mentioned MoBo but didn't like the sound that was coming out of those cans. I'm using the cans for music and gaming so I returned those cans and just bought a pair of Bowers p7. These come at a HUGE premium to the senns but they have lauded throughout the music industry so I wanted to give them a try. These sound a little bit better but still not what you would expect out of a $400 set of headphones. I've used both the rear headphone input jack on my motherboard and front case (corsiar 750d) and they still don't sound that great. Do I need to buy a preamp? If so which one would be a decent buy? Later down the line I plan on buying a pair of definitive technology 8020s floor standing with a maraantz slimline amp but that is still months away so I'd like to a solution to what I have now.
Also I don't know if this a big deal or not but in my taskbar for the audio manager it says realtek and not SupremeFX..
Also should I be looking at the Creative Sound Blaster Z SBX PCIE Gaming Sound Card with Beamforming Microphone SB1500 if I'm looking for a good solution for audio? Would I still need a preamp if I got this sound card? It was 59.99 a few days ago but has now jumped to 79.99. I don't mind paying 20 bucks more.
