Asus Maximus Extreme or Formula 1150? Open box or New?

Thread Starter
Newegg has some open box 1150 motherboards, including the maximus extreme and maximus formula. The open box extreme is $285 vs $389 new, and the formula open box is $250 vs $300 new. Do you think its a good move just to get new as I dont know if the personal who returned it stressed the components, etc and I will be doing overclocking on my ram cpu and gpu all will be on water.

Let me know what you guys think, id really love the extreme, but i only have $300 for the mobo, so its either the new formula or the open box extreme. I am not really sure if the extreme is better for ocing vs the formula, or if it just has a lot of features most dont use.

Thanks guys

Take the Formula new. I rather avoid open box things from anywhere. Are you trying to beat any records or anything? I would imagine the difference in OC potential to be very minimal.

Save yourself the potential headache

I've had good and bad experiences. I rather spend the extra for a brand new board.

Open box can be fine but sometimes it will be board only with very few if any accessories like the io shield. Also if a board is returned because of a faulty usb port or something sometimes it is just resold without things being fixed.

It's taking a chance.Sometimes it will be perfect with no issues or missing accessories at all.
