I need help deciding and advice

I'm in a bit of dilemma, I cannot decide what route I should go, a10 6800k or fx6300.
I have $300 budget for CPU, memory and motherboard,
I do game and also a power user
I would like some advice on why you would go the route you choose, any other options would be nice also
is my 9600gt even irrelevant anymore game wise?

My current system and it serve me well , but the motherboard on it way out and I'm using a sata card, since my on board sata are not working anymore

Intel dual core e5300
4 GB ram
Nvidia geforce 9600gt
500 GB hdd
ultra lsp 650watt power supply

The A10-6800K is both a CPU and GPU wound up into a ~$135 chip. It is a good value for systems that are not likely to be paired with a discrete GPU. Otherwise the less expensive Athlon 760k and FX-43XX offer similar compute performance without commanding the higher price that comes with the iGPU.

The FX-6300 is only a CPU but is typically available for ~$110. This is a good value for systems that will be using a discrete GPU anyway, as none of the budget here is wasted on an iGPU.

I'm swaying toward the fx 6300, i guess i can, use the 9600gt in the mean time while i save you for discrete gpu
post #5 of 6
The 9600gt actually isn't bad compared to the iGPU of the A10. The A10 is almost always VRAM bandwidth bound, while the 9600GT will, in modern games, be shader bound, but I would expect both to actually wind up with similar limitations as a result of their weakest links. Obviously the 9600gt won't do DX11 but realistically speaking, the APU can't handle high enough setting to make DX11 very meaningful anyway.

I agree with the plan to continue with the 9600GT as a temporary solution if having a nice motherboard and the 6 core chip is important to you.

Otherwise... You could use the stock cooler and a less exciting motherboard, and squeeze in an HD7770.
