Windows 7 Freezing Randomly

Hello

I shut down my computer yesterday and started it again today.
I haven't changed any software or hardware.
Since then, I windows started freezing occasionally, in games, then in normal windows usage, then after restart; on windows logo loading screen (see attached image for message after it froze) untitled.jpg 874k .jpg file ,
after 2nd restart it loaded windows but Im afraid the freezes still occur in windows.
It freezes for a minute or two, then its OK again, then after a while it freezes again.
Some times it freezes and I can't access any background windows, but on the current window I was working on I can still work on and edit.

What can cause such freezes? Give me the possibilities and I will start checking.
Tomorrow I will run memtest for 24 hours, but what else can I check?

Specs: 4GB DDR2, Q6600 not OCed, 3 HDDS, GTX 660, Corsair 620HX PSU, ASUS P5E MB, 5-6 year old computer

Any more info I will write if you need.

Please help, thanks.

That error means Windows is having trouble reading a file/drive. First, go to start, run and enter "CMD /C CHKDSK /F", say yes to scan on restart, and if no errors found, swap your SATA cable. Doesn't hurt to check SMART with CrystalDiskInfo either.

Also unplug any USB drives while troubleshooting.

CrystalDiskInfo says all my drives are 'Good'
I am not sure how I can swap my SATA cables, check the PSU I have (620HX), I dont have any more spare cables or dont know if I even saved the spare ones I had
Where can I buy SATA cables for my PSU?

I will run check disk, does it check all of my HDDs?

Memtest didnt find any errors

Thanks

He means to swap the SATA data cable between the HDD/SSD and the motherboard with a different cable and see if the problem persists.  I have also experienced some strange issues with bad SATA data cables.  Not the STOP error you got, but complete, temporary (usually), and unexpected system freezing.

No; since no disk was specified, it will check C:\ only.

I will try to swap my SATA data cables, I have 3 mechanical 500GB HDDs, 2 of them were recently replaced, one of which the system is installed on. The old one is a backup drive which only has data on it.

EDIT: it seemed that helped
