Laptop suggestions please

Thread Starter
Hello, I was looking to buy a good mid range laptop, and I didn't know what to look for, I like the look of the Lenovo y510p but I don't know how to get one in Australia (if anyone can tell me a cheap way to get one delivered or bought over here, let me know) but I had some other laptops in mind, I'd like a gt 740, 4th gen i5 or i7, 8gb of ram, 15" ish screen 1920x1080 preferably, and that's about it, looks and stuff doesn't really matter, but a good warranty would be nice.

Thanks

BIlbo

Is a 14" screen okay? If so, this laptop seems to fit all your needs.

At 1699.00 AUD, it is a little expensive but the hardware justifies the price premium.

Interesting thread. However, I would avoid the Razer Blade 14" and its crappy screen.

Thanks for the ideas, do you think it'd be better to save and get the gigabyte, or get the y510p which I have found for around 1200 shipped?

If you are cool with SLI, you can go with the y510p.

SLI comes with some downsides, however:
increased heat and power consumption from 2 graphics cards (and diminished battery life)
dependence on drivers for proper double-performance scaling
possible micro-stuttering

Other thoughts:
SLI 750's will beat the 760M on the p34g
500GB hard drive + 24GB SSD cache vs 256GB SSD
the y510p has a 1080p TN panel which is not as good as the 1080p AHVA panel on the p34g

Otherwise, the y510p is a very good deal:
