Xspc Photon/Pump combo.

Thread Starter
I am planning my watercooling and need some advice on the tube organazation.

I plan on cooling the Gpu R9-290 and my cpu 3820k.

xspc photon 270mm with attched pump.

The only problem i have in my plan is with the Res, since the photon comes with only one large fill port on the top i would need an M20 to g1/4 adaptor.
But if i use the adaptor i have no idea how i would bleed the loop.

Could i use use a T ot Y fitting on top of the fill port and use one side for fillng and the other for circulation, or would that be ineffective.

Help needed as i would like to run the loop through the top port. If i have to though i will run it thorugh the pump.

So any advice.

And i cant really change the res/pump since i love the quality with the glass and metal contruction.

advice needed thanks OCN.

Metal construction? This res is made of POM Acetal.

Why the need for the G-1/4 adaptor for the fillport? Unless you plan on having your loop returning though the top port I don't see much need for it unless you're dead set on filling your res with a funnel.

Actually just the end caps are made of POM. The tube is glass and mounting bracket is aluminum

I've seen so many people have problems trying to use a res' fill port as an inlet, where it causes some sort of airlock issue starving the pump and in some cases burning it up. I've also seen it done and it works for some people, but it still seems to be a really bad idea to me. Someone else would have to explain what it is that happens or why because I'm not exactly sure what is happening, but there sure are a lot of posts and videos posted all over the place from people who have run into this issue and always seems related to trying to use a res top fill port as an inlet. The only way I'd consider doing it was if the res top had multiple top ports (the Photon doesn't) so I could still use one as a fill port and a drop tube / aqua-tube or whatever it's called that extends a top port inlet down into the res.

The Photon has two inlets and an outlet at the base of the reservoir. That's what I'm using. The only thing I'd use an M20 to G1/4 fill port adapter for would be to extend the fill port to the top of the case for easier filling.

The most common problem w/ a single port is that a) you hear tinkle noises as water enters or b) you used a fill tube and can't get more than a 1/8th inch or so submergence. I spent soem time thinking for a way around it ....asked here in the forums if anyione evr had any luck....in the end I just bought a multi port top.

Very disappointing that the only 2 glass reservoirs (Photon and Aqualis) are a) kinda fat at 75mm and 80mm and b) can not be used with alternate tops.
