Your opinion on Bose computer speakers?

Thread Starter
My wife has her heart set on buying the Bose Companion 5 Speakers for our computer. They are $400 but she will get them for $250 because she works for a retailer that sells them.

So the price is ok I guess, but does anyone know of the quality or has had any experience with them? I tried talking her into getting a sound card and nice regular speakers but to no avail. These speakers do not need a sound card, they simply plug into USB port and that's it.

link to see speakers:

So in the end, I was wondering what people have to say about these speakers. Thx!

I have no experiance with Bose's computer speakers, but I can tell you that if they are anything like their home theater products, you'll want to avoid them. Bose has some of the shoddiest build quality I've ever seen, and the prices for what you get are way to high. Definatly listen to them in person and check them out before you drop that much cash, but I'd save yourself a ton of time, money, and effort and look into a better company like Klipsch for that price.

May I reccomend the Klipsch Promedia 2.1? For 2.1 systems, you will not find anything that is as clear or detailed, and these guys are LOUD!

I've never had problems with anything of Bose. They've always been great, as far as I've seen. I don't know about their computer speakers though.

But I love them, although I'm not willing to spend nearly that much on anything audio related. IMO, most mid-range products are good enough for me (as far as audio goes) and generally don't give me any problems, at a much MUCH lower price.

All the Bose speakers I have ever heard sounded great. However, I do not know about those particular speakers. What I would recomend is that you read reviews of them and other speakers in that same configuration and figure out what the best speakers would be for what you want to do.

Ask her to look at the Klipschs. They are out of this world. I have had mine for over a year now and they sound GREAT to this day. Here is a link to what I have here at home.

I've always thought Bose did high quality stuff. It's always out of my price range, so i'm not to familiar with the stuff.

but speakers are like monitors, best to check them out in person.

If you can buy them and return them if you don't like them, then I say get them and check them out.

Oh, wait, these are usb speakers? No, sorry, forget them. Since they don't use your sound card, they are going to have to use the cpu for processing power (unless they included a chip in the system, which is possible, but i doubt it).
Plus, you'll be stuck just using them with your computer. If you want to hook it up to your home entertainment system, you can only do it by routing the sound thru your computer.

I guess they are worth it if you don't have a sound card in your computer, and that you are only going to use them with your computer.

But personally, even though Bose usually does excellent stuff, these don't seem like they are that decent. They might sound increditable though, but I'm not down with it's connection.
