Your opinion on Bose computer speakers? - Page 2

Same here, USB speakers don't sound to good to me, no pun intended, and yeah BOSE is to proud of their stuff and the stuff is just to expensive. Klipschs, never heard of that brand, course, I am not audio expert, would a set of those 2.1 speakers be better than a logitec set? All in all, just order a good sound card and a set of good speakers and you will have a much better sounding computer, and it will be one less USB port used. good luck

hmm... for that price I'd go with a vintage receiver or integrated amp and a pair of bookshelf speakers and you'd probably get better sound

Klipsch ProMedia's are great speakers. I have the Ultra 5.1 myself. They're not as cheap as Logitech on bases of watts/dB or special features like wireless. However, they are very crisp and clear. Of course, they're not $10K audiophile speaker clear but definitely better than Logitechs.

Yup! Bose is actually ALL that great IMO. I've heard some great Boston Acoustic and Polk speakers. For computers though, Klipsch makes some good stuff so you might consider checking them out.

I've had some experience with the two brands mentioned in this thread: Bose and Klipsch. I owned a pair of the ProMedia 2.1s and they were, pound for pound, likely second best pair of speakers I've ever owned, regardless of application. The best were a pair from a company called KEF who manufactured a series of speakers using what they called Uni-Q technology. These are the speakers I still use today for my home theater rig. To put things in perspective, the KEFs cost me ~$800 in 1988-9.

Bose speakers are great for the mainstream to high-end consumer with deep pockets and an affinity for pleasing, though not always accurate, sound. If you want speakers that will give you good sound, I'd bet the Bose will do an admirable job. If you want more accurate speakers, I'd side with the Klipsches any day.

As for the ramifications of using USB to deliver part of the audio chain? From the little experience I've had with USB mics and headsets, I'd avoid them like Taco Bell's green onions and lettuce.

Maximum PC did a review of these Bose Companion 5 speakers this month. It uses propriety connections so you can't extend any of the cables. The sound was only mediocre and the bass was not great. In addition, it is USB so your sound card is useless. For the price of them, get a Logitech or Klipsch instead.
