Alternatively, this D-400-7-TLSB6SS
has 6 hotswap bays already and with this hotswap cage
that brings you up to 10.
I believe either of those should fit on your A/V rack. Just FYI if you buy a 3U case make sure to buy a power supply compatible with a 3U case. That second case is 4U so you should be able to fit a normal ATX power supply in it.
Also a lot of coolers will not fit in a 3U case, so make sure to buy an appropriate one. If using an i3 Xeon this Noctua NH-U9D
will be compatible with a 4U server. I own two of those and they are super quiet. Unsure if that will work for 3U though (Probably not).
The Supermicro cases are too long to fit in his a/v rack.
The iStar 10 bay was awesome! I gave them a call and they said the case will not be available for at least another month, so no pricing as of yet.
The other option is really good as well. It kinda sucks that it has to fit in this AV case because (As Dream Killer pointed out) there are sick deals all over ebay for servers. I am going to hunt a little more and will let you know of my resuts. This was incredibly helpful and feel like I am on the right path with this server.
Last question I promise. When considering setting up the server for media whats the advantage over Unraid versus a windows server. Everyone repeats redundancy is key for backup but unraid says its not necessary with theirs and I am totally lost lol.
