Eyefinity - anyway to make it usable for gaming along side regular desktop functions?

So I finally for the first time ever have 3 matching 27" monitors on my computer. I've had 3 monitors for a while but they've always been of varying types / resolutions / etc so I never even bothered to look at eyefinity. The one I have now is a LG 27" IPS (27EA63V-P). It has a nice smallish bezel and a pretty awesome picture for gaming IMO.

So setting up eyefinity for the first time and loaded up borderlands 2 and it was awesome!

The trouble is, trying to go back and forth between eyefinity gaming mode, and individual displays for regular working on the desktop. I'm a computer programmer so I regularly make use of all 3 displays independently. Having all 3 displays act as one when doing that kind of work is not nearly as productive and also makes for a LOT of mouse travel lol.

I set up presets in the catalyst control center thinking that should take care of it.. no. Well it does, but it causes all kinds of problems (I'm running Windows 8 by the way). It likes to cause issues with Windows Explorer stopping responding, rearranging the monitors from the layout I had them set to when saving the preset, windows don't remember their previous positions and get moved all over the place... It's just a nightmare and makes going between eyefinity and non eyefinity a royal pain in the butt. It's also very slow when switching modes which is annoying. I am running a 6970 btw, and for my computer itself it's a 3960x chip with 32 gb of ram.

Anyone have any advice on how to solve these issues, if they can be solved? I was really hoping there was some way to simply have it switch into eyefinity mode if it detected a full screen application and automatically switch back out when the application closes without going crazy and losing half my configuration and positions from before. But I don't see any way to achieve that.

set up presets should work ...
one as extended desktop ( for working )
one as eyefinity ( gaming )

i use hot keys ( ctrl-shift 1 and ctrl-shift 2 ) to switch between them ..
i find sometimes i will have to make the command twice.. once will set the mode, and a second will arrange screens in correct order. not everytime, but sometimes ( most often when switching back to extended desktop )

there are annoyances like icons not remembering positions, or sometimes having to redefine your presets after driver crash or something..

Yeah unfortunately those things do not solve the problems I'm having lol.

I'm not having a problem with making a quick way to switch between the two. I'm having a problem that when I switch from eyefinity to extended displays, everything goes to ***** and doesn't remember where it was (not just icons, lots of programs and such), and it sometimes randomly just moves my saved monitor layout around so that they aren't even layed out in the correct order for their physical position.

What driver version are you on? Did you do a clean install for the drivers last time you updated them?

Catalyst version 2013.0830.1944.33589 currently. And yes when I installed them they were fresh because I just reformatted and installed windows 8 a few weeks ago. Windows update may have updated the drivers automatically since then, I don't know offhand.
