Build [expert advice needed]

Thread Starter
Hi thumb.gif New build and I could use some advice/thoughts on it

This will be used (50/50%) for High-end Gaming / 3D modelling+rendering.
(3dsmax/photoshop/after effects)

I’m already over budget ($4.350 here in Scandinavia – and this is absolute maximum for me)

(will overclock as much as possible on air)

MB: Asus Maximus VI Hero

CPU: Core i7 I7-4770K

COOL: Thermalright Silver Arrow SB-E or Noctua NH-D14 ? or perhaps a “hybrid” of the two?

RAM: Corsair Dominator 2 x 8 GB (1866 - 9-9-9-24)

PSU: Sea Sonic Platinum Series 860 coilwhine?

SSD: Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE250 250 GB (win7)
Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE500 500 GB (apps/games)

HDD: WD Black WD2003FZEX 2 TB (storage)

CASE: Phanteks Enthoo Primo (*)

GPU: GTX780TI (**) (possibly an evga classy – depending on price)

LCD: EIZO FlexScan EV2736W (would use an Eizo S2431W as secondary)

Any conflicts^^ ?

(*)
I can’t afford custom water cooling atm. - Also I can’t risk a leak, with my economy right now – however I do believe this case would be good for air cooling as well?

(**)
I won’t go past 2560 x 1440 / 60hz - anytime soon – but 3GB VRAM might not be very future-proof? thinking.gif

What do you think about this build? – Any suggestions for improvement?

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

There are 2 things you can change right now to reduce your costs: the motherboard, and the PSU.

The motherboard is overkill for air-cooled overclocking, and the PSU is extreme overkill. All that would be needed is a good 550W PSU.

since you said you're stretching your budget you can save yourself a bit here:

faster ram, and cheaper:

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133

or

G.SKILL Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133

and HDD:

unless youre set on WD, seagate's is a bit cheaper.

Seagate SV35 Series 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s

Edit:

as posted from above me, PSU can be lower:

something like Rosewill CAPSTONE-550W (its gold certified but price is much lower).

Cooler Master V550S is pretty much the best bang for buck in the gold rated mid price range

Seasonic G is second and after that comes the Rosewill Capstone

Cooler Master VS is not sold in the US yet and the Capstone is only sold in the US

So depends on where you are from
