i have a question about dos gamming

i own a few dos games on cd meaning they were released on cd for dos and what not any how my question is since i want to play does games on my quad core pc and my windows xp os isnt helping me here my question is: should i partition my drive and dual boot dos dual boot windows 3.1 or to install virtual box with a windows 3.1 os i know about dos box but it doesnt seem to wanna work for alot of my older dos games so what are my options as far as does games go and which option would work best for my needs

i have no idea if win 3.1 would come close to recognizing your hardware . . a VM would handle any head aches for you.

EDIT - jesus i forgot how to configure IRQs and COM ports!!
