Fact or Fiction? AMD new APU's will change PC gaming forever.

So a buddy of mine and I were talking today about AMD's new APU's coming out and we're convinced that they'll bring PC gaming to the mainstream audience.

I fully believe they might just be the force that kills gaming consoles. I mean, think about it. Their new APU's coming next year are already close too or may even surpass what next-gen console have hardware wise. If this comes to fruition then imagine what their APU's will be like in 2015-2016...merely a couple years into next-gen consoles 7-10 year life span before a refresh.

These new APU's, along with things like Mantle, HSA, hUMA, DDR4 RAM, etc means that within a couple years (if that) a $150-200 APU will literally BLOW past next-gen consoles. This means that for the first time ever a $400-500 pre-built desktop or possibly a laptop/tablet will have the power to play new games at the same level or beyond what consoles would be capable of.

Don't even get me started on what things like the Oculus Rift and other similar peripherals will do for PC gaming. Not just those that are already in it but those who play on consoles as well.

So yeah...over all...I just see AMD's APU's truly and honestly being a real game changer. It means that anyone who buys a desktop based on one of their APU's is totally PC gaming ready. Now I'm not saying that they will get rid of dedicated GPU's at all, as we will obviously be moving on the 4k and the likes, but for a 1080p gaming machine these new APU's will be just fine.

Thoughts? Agree? Disagree?

The technology looks great now but will need time to mature to a stability and quality level you would expect from consoles... Well, from what I've seen of the new consoles that may not even be the issue. But the general idea that the console will die within this or the next gen is probably viable. Or in another manner, the console will become more versatile. The steambox is going to flop but regular computers will probably face a gaming resurgence as prices and performance of APU's increase

Maybe when hsa is fully implemented and the dies become big yet cheap but it'll take time.
I'm excited about the extreme power that the cpu could get from outsourcing simple instructions.

It is pretty much a given that "the future is fusion" -AMD

Wouldn't necessarily kill console gaming, but I do see it introducing new consumers to PC gaming. If AMD manages to make hardware vendors use their AMD APUs for tablets/ultrabooks/all-in-one, then they may have a winner.

I have only heard bad reviews of the APU combos. They run super hot, don't work too well with secondary GPU cards and such. I have toyed with the idea of making a micro desktop that fits in a suit case for on the go high end gaming. I haven't heard one good experience about the FX series, FM sockets. :/

Indeed but tides are changing since GCN has the potential for a smooth experience.

Yeah, they're getting better. Technology always does.
