well the 360 is hooked up to my projector using a COMPONENT-TO-VGA adapter which supports HD. yea im pretty sure its not an actual 1080i but is scaling it to fit?? but i think its still High-def just not at a big resolution? i dont know but when i feed the projector the 360 HD signal it says detecting signal and then when it shows the signal it says 1080i in the lower left corner of the projection for about five seconds or so. but i dont think its true 1080i, but im pretty sure true 1080i would still look a lot better. i think im going to buy a westinghouse 37" 1080p LCD even though i have this projector

The specs for that projector say it supports 800x600 and 1024x768 so I don't see how it's displaying 1080i without some major scaling.

You may want to buy the 360 VGA cable to hook your 360 directly to the projector. Don't use the component to VGA adapter and see if you get better results. If you don't like it, return the VGA cable for a refund.

you think the adapter will deteriorate the signal?

The adapter just muddies the whole process. When using component cables, only certain resolutions are available in the dashboard. When you use a VGA cable with a 360, many new resolutions become available in the dashboard settings.

Using a component to VGA adapter just complicates things.
