Win XP to view 4tb on network? Please help

Thread Starter
Hello all,

I have one internal 4tb and one external 2tb on my desktop. I set them as identical. However, my laptop can only view the 2 tb drive. When, I click on the 4tb drive, there's an error message "...is not accessible...."

Any idea?

Thanks,

LD

my desktop runs win 7
laptop runs win xp

I conclude that your laptop and desktop are in a simple "peer-to-peer" network (as both would have to be Win 7 to be a homegroup). Since the 4tb drive is your "c" drive on your desktop you may have more complex issues with permissions to allow the "c" drive (the 4tb drive) to be seen by the laptop. I have seen issues in peer-to-peer networks with "c" drive recognition by the others in the network. Perhaps this is by design (safety or security) that a drive labeled "c" is harder to make visible.

I had a peer-to-peer XP Win 7 network and it was tough getting the either machine to see the program files folder on either machine. With some work with security and permissions I was successful. I had Dreamweaver on the Win 7 machine and I wanted to put my work in the program files folder of the XP machine (because that is where Apache stores its files for a web site). I ran an Apache hosted web site off the XP machine but it was easier to do my page design if Dreamweaver was on the Win 7 machine.
