DFI is in trouble. - Page 20

Quote..." if Travis et. al. terminated forum members who disagreed with his running of a forum,"

He did....

If you did not abide by the term you got a warning (on a good day).... and there after you got banned...usually for 7 days at first then a lifetime ban....

These forum were very strict with rules...but...this kept riff/raff to a minimum....

I agree with the tight ship aproach.... it worked.... it seems that at times that someone will come in seeking help and you give them a reply that they reply back with...I dont know where you come up with that I know what works....

Well if they did in fact know what works why were they seeking help in the 1st place?

without actually being a part of dfi-street you cannot give them a fair shake....I am apart of alot of forums and can see the riff/raff that goes on at alot of them...you do have bad apples that spoil the bunch and that steers the general honest person really seeking support elsewhere for help....not a good thing in my opinion....

You have different types of people at forums...those that know nothing and base their buying decisions on hearsay from friends and the like...but have no idea how to get where there friends are at....and usually left out to hang when the parts are in....

Then you have those that know what they are doing and use the elitist to reach the same levels....

And in a forum with good demeanor both types can get along comfortably...

I can debate my arguement on the grounds I have used all types of brands... I am not going to bash any brand because certain things dont live up to my expectations....I just wont use them for my personal use...I have nothing wrong with any other board other than what I stated...All boards are geared towards a certain type of user and when they are used inside that perameter they work 100% as intended...

This isnt geared towards political debate this is geared towards suport from the peers... mainly the ones left hanging that want something resolved...

Yeah, he did keep a tight ship - no sig and a post meant a instant 1 day ban. However, it kept the forums running smoothly

Actually, not being a part of the community I'm like 99% of the rest of the internet, and here -- observers. And being an observer, I see a 200:0 ratio of slamming against a company. The problem is, DFI-Street members and us observers don't know what triggered the terminations -- only DFI and those terminated do know. Since DFI is tight lipped, we only get one side of the affair.

We can't exactly take one sided reports as the truth, so we either watch, read, laugh or like what I'm doing, adding a TON of disclaimers. Why? Because the audience can be influenced by such one sided news, and it's not fair to anyone if it's not disclaimered when the only evidence is he said/he said snippets; or even challenged when wrong (i.e., things like even lamblasting their website for not being 1600x1200 in size, or works with 10000 browsers).

All of this comes off as being petty (ad hominems; grammar and spelling flames included). And observers view pettiness for what it's worth.

I did some looking, and I couldn't find the posts that lead up to the post by A/H_G. Was there another rep from DFI or something? The response kinda reads like he is going after someone that is saying that (in typical DFI fashion) "there is nothing wrong with *insert product here*", or at least something very similar. did anyone see the whole conversation? It would likely clear alot of things up.

You won't find that documentation, because each side is trying to save face. Which leaves a lot of speculation, chawing and cheerleading in it's place. Which is non factual, and quite biased.

Yeah. That's why I asked. It seems like the obvious progression, but I couldn't find it anywhere in this thread. I was kinda hoping that it was taken from a thread on the Street, and if that is correct.... then someone must've observed the situation.

But you're not really part of either of the "one sided" are you....?

what you read you consider your "one side" and that has no basis for the arguement.... It really has no bearing or part of a "disclaimer" as ...without being an actual member and know of the streets running or the doings can you make a actual opinion....

The point is I am trying to make is that...this post is about dfi-street trouble and DFI....not diclaimers that sway from the original thread topic....

Lets keep this to that orientation...and leave everything else that doesnt pertain top DFI or dfi-street to another topic...

EDIT: every question that needs to be answered as far as what went on in what threads can still be viewed by dion a google search and reading the Cache....it's there...

Again, reading one sided opinions of what occurred is not factual. If Travis discloses his termination letter, you will only see that print. You won't know of the exchange behind the scenes that caused the termination. You won't know why DFI decided to let go of their official support site, either (that's a drastic termination that's not thought out on a whim. That's like Overclockers.net dropping it's forum over a tift with another hardware site).

Only way to know the truth is to have been a fly on the wall during the exchanges. Everything else provided is a he said/he said affair, and taken as one.

And Bowtie, I'm strictly posting about DFI/DFI-Street and cleaning up falsehoods, from web design and beyond. Consider it a duty of a faithful hardware fan.

Dr_bowtie, I think you are correct in that we should send out letters. To me, it seems that dfi has no intention in the re-opening of dfi-street, and I am a little confused as to what action should be taken in hopes of getting the street back up. You say that financial support would be more to their liking, but I don't see as to how that could nudge dfi to get it back up.

I did think that, considering dfi-street was independantly owned, could we not give travis the financial support to keep the forum open, even if he has no contract with dfi? I would be most willing to do that, and would have no problem contributing whatever I can on a regular basis if need be. I got a response from frank wong, basically telling me that they are in a lose lose situation, and that because of travis openly stating that a product had faults, they cannot continue their relationship with him, and they hav no choice but to terminate it. Also, they are going to be opening a new forum that Rgone is going to be running.

You know....

I have had that Idea....Email Travis at his gmail address and see...

I know of other forums that have paid supporters for add free forum use...

Meaning you pay a subscription fee for supporter status... I have sort of memtioned this to Travis before when he mentioned changing things around and I got an "absolutely not" but now things maybe different...

But you can bet it wont be to serve DFI branding... it would probably be open to all brands and probably not for support but just for a general wealth of knowledge...

Now...I know I read at the street travis got Rgone the job at DFI and he was with Travis and dfi-street so I do not know the take Rgone will go...nor can I really comment on what I think will happen....If it were me I would turn it down....just for principal...

Travis did not go into the exact cause of termination but one can read between the line with the info in front of your face if you got to read all the info....but I also know what I know with my comunications with Travis and thats all theat needs to be said...
