Being officially excommunicated removes the perks of association. If DFI puts up an official site, it is there the traffic will go, because the new site will have the news, the BIOS, the drivers which every DFI fan must use. And by extension, it means they have keeping traffic, which will half the DFI-Street members at least in half.

This is why forum splits are so damaging, and why admins try so much to prevent them (ask MaxPC and Tom's Hardware about them). :|

Its not really like that though, is it?

DFI paid Travis to as a contractor to support their boards, so if hes saying bad stuff their not really going to keep him on, and I'd imagine that there must have been other incidents, or maybe they were just looking for an excuse to fire him?

Their setting up their own forums, so it would be like Overclockers.net going down and then starting up again as Overclocking.net with different mods and admins

See thats where you just dont make sence....dfi-street gave all the people who came to that site all that and more...dfi-street got DFI to make changes that actually worked for the users and better for the general....Bios's...they were all there...plus a a myriad of others...

how many sites do you know that would take ALL the DFI bios's official and beta and modded and put them on a bootable cd to make them more user friendly... boot flash done....2 key strokes...made by Tmod of coarse but used by most all DFI fans...you dont get this kind of service at any other forum.... This forum has usefull tool most other forum can only dream of.... the full board overclock settings are there for most any compatable hardware...

To just hint that wasnt available to other than a DFI oficial support site is uneducated....

you are just prooving your words have no sway in disclaiming anything...

Which is par on course with what other hardware sites that split did.

If you guys are 16, you weren't around when MaxPC and Tom's had their splits -- it's not a nice affair. Recovery is never the same, as factions move on sniping at each other dragging membership down.

Travis may understand this if he remembers those nuclear meltdowns. It's NOT easy starting and maintaining forums, and when they're axed, never expect them to be the same again. There's a reason there's 1001 hardware forums, and it's not just because some 16 year-old had a great idea. But spinoffs never return to their all time highs.

Ever wonder why admins are soooo careful????

I sent him an email. I do know that alot of the members would be willing to do whatever he/she can to get the forum back up. Frankly, It would obviously be different without dfi support, but it would still be "dfi-street." I don't know that flooding dfi's inbox with mail is the best thing to do, however it definatly can help. They are obviosly irritated with the fact that they are being bombarded with letters, and have stated as such.

Different indeed, with less than half of the current membership. Folks aren't dumb, they want their motherboards working, and loyalty only goes as far as if the can get to a forum to ask for help, or fumbling with BIOS errors and can't even boot their rig.

Or if membership is more interested in forum sigs; forum soap operas; biting the hand that feeds it, too. People don't have time to waste (time=money), so I do believe DFI-Street will have to change drastically, or Darwinism will play out.

1001 hardware forums to use, and I see Overclocker.net sure isn't suffering from the split, either.

I have to say that is a fair representation of that situation. But, along the same lines, name another "official" hardware support site (aside from the "embedded" forum sections like on bleedinedge) that lists official release BIOS and software, along with modded BIOS and software. Would Abit or Asus support that on their site?

I'm running a modded BIOS from Merlin, and I got that file from the Street.... which was DFI's official support site.

Right...thats what I meant...Tmod made the cd and tmod posted it for users to use....But it was on the site and included all bios's...be it official or beta or modded....and I agree...would another official site allow that..?

I am using a beta bios that allowed me to take ddr400 and scale it up to ddr600 so I can run it 1:1 with the cpu... and I believe that bios came from bigtoe...?
