AMD X2 4200 Overclockability

Thread Starter
I was just wondering if anyone has overclocked one of these bad boys. If you have how much could you over clock it with stock heatsink and fan. I think that later i will upgrade cooling on cpu as well as gpu but dont have any money right now. but help on this would be highly appreciated.

i think this is similar spec to my Opty 175 stock speed is 2.2 with 2meg level 2 , 1mg for each core. mine runs at 2.6 for stability, but have got it upto 2.75 you might get lucky and get one that goes past 2.8. Purchased my Opty from the states for $265 running at FX60 speeds NICE. Make sure you run both core with Prime 95 for stability check.

If it was a Toledo, you could probably hit 2.8 without much issues. If its a Windsor, I'd go with batman and say 2.6Ghz on average.

Watch the temps, as you've probably guessed, and set yourself a voltage target

4200's usually max out at somewhere between 2.6 and 2.8. There are a few that get to 3.0 but those are few and far between.

Probably upgraded cooling. See how far you can get on stock though.
