The most important part of DICE cooling is the insulation. There are a bunch of guides out there, even a bunch here on OCN, like this one by our own local overclocking hero
. Most people use kneaded eraser (time consuming), vaseline (incredibly messy), Liquid Electrical Tape - LET (hard to remove), or some even Dragonskin (a silicone you can pour onto the board) to do the insulation.
If all you are doing is DICE cooling, you can probably skip the thermometer for now, unless you are planning on benching some socket 939/AM2/AM2+ chips. For the most part the rest of the chips run cold bugs cooler than -100C which DICE cannot reach.
The pot can be tricky. Koolance used to sell a pretty low priced pot
, perhaps you can find one used for cheap? Other than that you are likely going to spend $150, probably more to get a pot. You can sometimes find them for cheaper if you keep an eye out.
