Need a new battery for the old white MacBook

Thread Starter
I got my MacBook probably about 6 years ago That thing has seen better days but I am still not ready to give up on it. The battery recently died and it doesn't hold the charge anymore. Anyhow, Apple charges a pretty penny for a new battery which doesn't seem worth it to me. Does anyone know where I can buy a new one for a reasonable price? I can still use my laptop at the moment like a "desktop" but its annoying. Do i bite the bullet and just get a new upgraded Mac or try to save mine?

At this point, finding an OEM battery may be difficult as most of what you'll find are cheap (quality wise) or even dangerous 3rd party knockoffs.

Sadly there aren't any great third party options for batteries. Most people complained that the cheaper ones didn't hold their charge well or wore out quickly. I asked a guy in the Mac department of MicroCenter about battery options for my MacBook and he put it bluntly "They start at $120 and end at $120".

I can but 3 $40 aftermarket batteries for 1 Apple, the last think I'd do is buy a new Apple battery.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have one of the black MBs from 2007. I love it to death, but I think something is wrong with the USB, it's maxed out at 3GB RAM, and the battery is losing life. As a matter of fact, the battery is puffed up puke.gif

I've heard lots of horror stories about knock-off batteries, so I've avoided getting one. However, I have read that the main problems with these knockoffs seems to be the controls and not the cells themselves. I've been thinking of getting either one of these knock-offs and doing a cell replacement, or just getting some cells from somewhere else and soldering them in. I'll report back here with what I find haha (although that might be a while.)

Oh, by the way: I actually still get about 2 hours with the old, puffed-up battery. And it has 599 cycles on it. That's all after 6.5 years. Isn't that amazing? Also, my solution to this problem and the 3GB RAM max problem was to finally get myself a new MBP -_-

You can find apple original batteries out there. They made the nonunis till 2009 and they work regardless. Buy beware when ordering 3rd party batteries.

Hi guys, I've got the same white MacBook, circa 2007.

Same problem, battery died, so I bought a 3rd party one for about $50 from a chinese supplier on eBay. It looked exactly like a genuine Apple one, all the correct stickers and labels etc. It died within 1 week. Ordered another one for about the same price from a different seller, this one lasted 2 days.

My recommendation would be to get a genuine one, even though they are a complete rip-off. You will just be wasting money otherwise.

Yeah, I just checked out eBay and sow all of the "genuine" ones for ~$50. From china, of course. I'm thinking: "Do not want."
