Get 780 or wait for custom 290?

Its been more than a month since AMD released their brand new Hawaii, and still we did not hear anything about the release date of their partners cards!

I'm planning to build a new PC on the early of December, and I really wants the 290 because of price performance ratio, but I'm afraid that I'll have to wait for next year.

What do you suggest? Get the GTX 780 $500, or wait for the Custom R9 290 $400 ?

Wait if you can!

It will be January before you can buy them, I told Raghu this but it looks like he ignored it. A guy in charge of ordering stock for Overclockers.co.uk who is in contact with AMD and their AIB partners a lot has been talking about it on their forum and said if they were due out in 2 or 3 weeks time they'd have them on order, and they don't.

AMD are still only shipping full built reference cards and so far no plans to change until end of December / early January.

So we won't see a custom cooled card on shelf's at stockist until at least mid-end January at this rate.

Absolutely ZERO chance this year!

As I've said well be lucky to see any custom designs on the shelfs this year, I have a meeting with AMD this week and shall speak with board partners to see if there is any newer updates. smile.gif

Hi there

So far the message is the same as I told you guys last month.

AMD have no plans to ship just parts yet until mid-end December. So that means the earliest we shall see custom design in stock shall be January, so same as what I said last month.

We might be able to get custom cards up for Pre-Order mid-end December with stock in January.

The only places which might get stock on the shelf end of December is China.

OP it would probably be worth waiting atleast till mid-dec to see if custom r9 290 cards are out. kyle of hardocp has information contradicting with gibbo of ocuk. so it comes down to who you want to believe and whether you can wait or not. if you cannot wait the gigabyte gtx 780 ghz is a good option.
