How much voltage is really safe/needed for 3800+

So far I'm at 270 FSB somewhat stable, no errors yet. I have the voltage at 1.5V, but I just read the AMD spec sheet and I don't know if this is safe. My temps are more than fine.
Cooling: Arctic silver 5, Freezer 64 Pro,
case: Silverstone (2) fm82, Apevia (2) 80mm, all on max except one of the silverstone exhaust fans.....
So is this voltage ok? Should I go higher? I know that the X2s need some major voltage for higher OCs......
Running small FFT Prime 95 right now(not RAM testing) and I'm at a max of 45C, but usually 45C
I also read on another forum that the 3800+ X2 can safely handle a vcore of 1.5V with the stock cooler and 1.7 with "the best" aftermarket air cooler.

What are your temperatures? Are they at or under 50*c at full-load? If you can keep your temperatures down below 50*c at full-load with additional voltage it would be safe to do it. With voltage your main concern are temperatures. Running excessive voltage through your cpu will decrease the lifespan of your processor though, but in terms of the computer world this in a non-factor because you will have long passed on to a new rig with a better processor then the 3800+ before that happens.

Yes I'm under 50C when running the Large FFT torture test in Prime 95. I am running 270 FSB with Vcore @ 1.50V. When I run SuperPi 1M I never exceed 42C. Also, I have cool and quiet disabled and my fan set to cool mode (uGuru's fan Guru).
I will have a Silverstone FM92 to replace the Arctic stock fan on Wednesday, which has a CFM of 110 compared to the Arctic's 45.

Are you running individual instances of Prime95 to stress both cores at the same time? I am guessing with temperatures like that with that clock and voltage you are not. You will have to create two folders and set the affinity before use, for example 0 for one core and 1 for the other. Another stressing software that is a little more user friendly is Orthos Beta, and will be comparable to Prime95.

Ok, I will give Orthos a shot. I have heard of this from Xtreme Systems forums. Yes, you're right, I'm not running the cores seperately. Will Orthos have an option for this as well? Do I have to create two folders with Orthos as well? Also, I tried to set my divider to DDR400 (CPU/11 I think, auto=CPU/10) when I had the HT clock set to 270 and I was recieved memory post errors, so I had to reset the CMOS :\\
Right now I'm going to see if I can raise the clocks higher or something because with the divider at CPU/12 I only get a memory clock of 225, which is lower than what I previously got with the divider at CPU/10, CPU=2470, memory=247

I use a dual folding@home console to stress test. It works pretty well since thats all of the usage it mainly gets.

Ok, thanks Beret.....BTW I DLed Orthos and I see now that it creates two threads automatically, so that's cool. You were right: that voltage and/or clock was too high, because I was getting 50C, sometimes more, which was causing errors after only a minute or two! I'm running the test at 265 MHz HT speed now, with the Vcore at 1.45, passed three tests on blended so far....

Well I read on the Abit forums that the Uguru temperature monitoring doesn't use the integrated AMD CPU diode to monitor, so I DLed core temp, and when running Orthos I'm getting REALLY high temps. Core 0 stays around 50C and core 1 stays between 57-59C......I read on the AMD spec sheet that it is safe to run under 65C, max temp was 70C I think, but I do remember that under 65C was safe.
I am getting these temps at 250 FSB, Vocore 1.40, HT 1.3......how on earth are people running this CPU at 2.8 GHz stable with air cooling?
Not to mention that my fan is only running @ 1920 RPM with Orthos running, when it's max is 2200. No biggie though, on Wednesday I'm getting a Silverstone FM92.
Any ideas on improving these temps/OC settings?

Orthos will really bring out the temps in amd 2x chips.. I thought my temps were fine until i ran orthos..
My cpu temp was fine around 45c but my core temps/diode went through the roof to about 60c running 1.425 vcore.. Most ppl dont actually monitor there core/diode temps and just go by there cpu temp so they dont actually know how hot the core of the chips are getting.. If your Cpu core/diode temps are hitting 60c+ i would def lay off the vcore until you can find a way to lower the temps a bit..

Yea that's what I did....I bet that I can get a decent OC on 1.4 Vcore until I lap my HS and install a better fan on it....in the mail on Wednesday! I am reading on AMDgeeks.com that there are people with rock solid stability OCs with merely air cooling and extra case fans. I have an extra one laying around, so I'll add that one then go buy another one or two.

EDIT:
what do you keep your HT voltage at? I'm wondering if that even makes a big difference.....
